Chapter One

The Freedom of Drape

The beauty of authentic Assamese handloom lies in its versatility. Unlike western wear, garments like the Mekhela Chador do not conform to rigid "Small, Medium, or Large" tags. They are unstitched, woven pieces of art designed to gracefully drape and adapt to the unique silhouette of every woman.

Chapter Two

The Mekhela Chador

The traditional Mekhela Chador is a two-piece ensemble, accompanied by an unstitched blouse piece. Our artisans weave these to standard, generous dimensions to ensure a comfortable and majestic drape for all body types.

Chapter Three

The Gamosa & Stoles

Woven with respect and purity, our Gamosas and silk stoles are crafted in standard traditional dimensions, making them perfect for gifting, honoring guests, or pairing with everyday attire.

  • Standard Gamosa: Approximately 1.50 Meters in length and 0.60 Meters in width.
  • Silk Stoles/Scarves: Approximately 2.00 Meters in length and 0.50 Meters in width.
  • Note: Because every piece is handwoven in Morigaon, please allow for a natural variation of 1-2 inches in the final measurements.
Chapter Four

Tailoring Your Heritage

When you receive your Mekhela Chador, it will arrive as unstitched fabric. To bring it to life, you will need the assistance of a local tailor. The Mekhela needs to be stitched into a wide cylindrical shape before pleating, and the blouse piece can be designed to your personal style and exact measurements.
